Hanukkah Treat Recipe: Carrot Latkes
Recipe & article by: Proud Dog Mom
Happy Hanukkah, my fellow dog mommas! If you’re celebrating The Festival of Lights, you may indulge in some yummy latkes. Traditionally, these pan-fried potato pancakes feature grated potato, onion, egg, and flour. Once the ingredients are married together, they’re plopped into a pool of oil and fried to perfection. While classic latkes shouldn’t be shared with our four-legged family members, with a few minor changes, you can use the basic idea to create a healthy and tail-wagging good dog treat.
In this dog-approved version, we replace potatoes with carrots, ditch the onion, and opt for oat flour. Plus, we’ve altered the cooking method. Check it out:
The Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 cup lightly packed shredded carrots (about 3 large carrots)
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup oat flour
- Olive oil or coconut oil, to grease pan
Instructions
- In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine shredded carrots, egg, and oat flour.
- Over medium heat, lightly grease a skillet with olive oil or coconut oil. Since these are made for dogs, don't use a lot of oil. Just enough to grease the pan so your latkes don't stick.
- Spoon carrot mixture into skillet, forming latke treats.
- Cook for about 2 minutes, flip, cook an additional 2 minutes. Or, cook until lightly golden.
- Let latke treats cool before giving one to your dog.
Notes
Store in an airtight container in the fridge for a few days.
